What is a Prosthodontist?
Prosthodontists are Specialists that have completed at least three additional years of training in an ADA-accredite program after dental school. Their specialized field of study, Prosthodontics, is one of the nine dental specialties recognized by the ADA National Comisson on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards. This field of study and expertise focuses on the diagnosis, treatment planning, full mouth rehabilition, and maintenace of oral function, comfort, appearance, and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or compromised teeth and/or maxillofacial tissues using biocompatieble substitues. They are extensively trained to diagnose and treat everything from simple to complex cases by restoring the function, aesthetic, and comfort of compromised teeth. Each and every patient presents as a unique case that requires a customized approach to solve their dental dilemmas.
Some of the treatments Prosthodontists use to return the function and aesthetic back to the patients are:
- Implants: When you’re looking for options to replace missing teeth, we offer many choices depending on your individual needs. Implants are a safe and proven way to replace your missing teeth without involving or compromising any adjacent teeth.
- Bridges: If you're missing one or more teeth, you may notice a difference in your ability to chew and speak. A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by attaching an artificial tooth to the natural teeth. Bridges are a great option to help restore your smile and return lost chewing function.
- Crowns: A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over the tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance.
- Dentures: Gum disease, injury, and tooth decay can all cause a loss of your natural teeth. However, we can bring back the smile on your face with dentures to restore your missing teeth. The fabrication of dentures is a very sophisticated process since these prosthesis need to perfectly mold to the natural arches and grooves of your mouth and gums. Regular dentures are removable and a great choice for those patients that are not candidates for implants.
- Overdentures: For patients that have implants, an overdenture is a great choice. This type of denture is between a regular removable denture and a fixed hybrid denture. It is also removable and held in place by implants. Overdentures are more stable than the classic removable dentures, but less stable than hybrid dentures because they are “snap-in” and can be removed by the patient.
- Fixed All-on-X Hybrid Dentures: These types of dentures are the crème-de-la-crème of the denture family. These zirconia hybrids are held by implants and screwed into the patient’s mouth. They are not able to be removed by the patient and act as natural teeth while providing beautiful aesthetic and function. The zirconia material that they are made out of is top tier for its strength, durability, biocompatibility and aesthetic properties.
- Veneers: Veneers are thin, custom-made shells made from porcelain designed to cover the front side of your teeth. Veneers are natural in appearance and are a great option for patients wanting to make adjustments to the look and feel of their smile. They are also used to address various cosmetic issues, such as: chipped or broken teeth, gaps between the teeth, discolored teeth, and misshapen/small teeth.
- Fillings: A filling is often used to repair a tooth that is affected by wear, decay, cracks, or fractures. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth is removed and replaced with a filling, which is made of a composite resin. The placement of a filling restores the tooth’s structure and function, prevents further decay and protects from infection.
- Onlays/Inlays: Onlays and Inlays are custom-made fillings that restore damaged teeth. Inlays fill the grooves of a tooth that are not dire enough to require a full dental crown, while onlays cover the chewing surface and are a great option for larger areas of decay or fractures. These types of fillings are durable and natural looking and can increase the lifespan and strength of a tooth. They can be made from porcelain or composite resin.
- Occlusal Disease Treatment: Occlusal disease is caused by a malocclusion, or improperly aligned bite. Patients with occlusal disease can experience symptoms of excessive tooth wear, sensitivity, muscle pain, and TMJ pain.
- TMJ/TMD Treatment: Millions of Americans suffer from chronic facial and neck pain as well as recurring headaches. In some cases, this pain is due to Temporomandibular Disorder, or TMD.

Electric Handpieces
To achieve the most precise restorative procedure we use the electric handpieces. They provide increased speed, efficiency and \improved smoothness of definitive preparation. There is also less heat production and less chance of tooth sensitivity. The comfort of the patients is better because of reduced vibration and less noise.
Intraoral Cameras
Our office uses 2 types of intramural cameras. SOPROLIFE and SOPROCARE
SOPROLIFE reveals what was once invisible to your eyes. This diagnostic camera detects tooth decay at different stages of its development, to help determine the best treatment. The autofluorescence technology in SOPROLIFE detects occlusal or interproximal decay- even in its earliest stages. SOPROLIFE helps perform the minimally invasive treatment by preserving healthy tissue. SOPROCARE camera assists during prophylaxis and periodontal treatments.
SOPROCARE reveals caries in CARIO mode, as well as new and old dental plaque in PERIO mode.
In addition, SOPROCARE is the first product on the market to reveal gingival inflammation.
In DAYLIGHT mode, SOPROCARE can also be used as a camera, providing all of the necessary tools to perform a complete and time-efficient oral examination.
Digital Dental Photography
Dr. Cokovska uses professional digital photography to better assess, diagnose and treatment plans for her patients.
We are using Canon professional camera for the best quality of our photos and we use Smile Lite MDP device The very first device is specially designed for allowing the most beautiful dental photos with very accurate shades to be taken with a smartphone. Smile Lite MDP can be considered as a “mini photo studio” and is equipped with three groups of LEDs. Each group can be lit up individually which allows us to choose the shade of the restorations very precisely.
